ATLANTA (AP) - Gov. Deal has signed a bill restricting abortion coverage in plans for state employees and those sold on the insurance exchange as part of the federal health care law. Democrats opposed the measure for infringing on a woman's right to choose and not providing an exception for rape.

ATLANTA (AP) - A federal judge in Atlanta has denied bond for a woman facing charges in the retaliation kidnapping of a North Carolina prosecutor's father. Patricia Kramer was one of nine people indicted in the April 5 kidnapping of Frank Janssen. The seven suspects arrested in the Atlanta area will be sent to North Carolina for trial.

WATKINSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A fire has destroyed the Watkinsville home of former state Rep. Bob Smith. Authorities say it appears the fire started in the garage area, but the cause hasn't been determined. Smith served 12 years in the Georgia House of Representatives.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Prudency hearings on whether Mississippi Power should be able to get customers to pay for its Kemper County power plant have been postponed. The Public Utilities Staff sought the delay. Monitors say some spending was imprudent, which could lead regulators to charge costs to Mississippi Power.
