ATLANTA (AP) - Five people accused in the abduction of a North Carolina man are due in federal court in Atlanta today for a bond hearing. Frank Arthur Janssen was taken from his home in Wake Forest, N.C., on April 5. He was rescued five days later when FBI agents raided an Atlanta apartment. Officials say the suspects are all from the metro Atlanta area.

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (AP) - Police south of Atlanta are investigating the killing of a technical college student. Fulton County Police say 24-year-old Malcolm X. Scott was shot and killed near College Park Sunday night.

REIDSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - One of Georgia's most prominent growers of sweet Vidalia onions has asked a judge to shield him from possible sanctions for shipping his crop ahead of the official start date imposed by a new state regulation. Farmer Delbert Bland is fighting Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black over a rule prohibiting growers from packing Vidalia onions for shipment before Monday.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A group is urging Alabama to create an inspection program for the hundreds of dams across the state, most of which they say go unregulated. Meanwhile, the manager of Georgia's inspection program says Georgia created the program after a 1977 dam failure flooded a Bible college and killed 39 people.
