Publix Georgia Marathon
More than 13,000 people participated in the Publix Georgia Marathon in partnership with CBS46.
The course took runners through the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Decatur, Druid Hills, Virginia-Highland and Midtown.
Abraham Kogo, of Kentucky, won first place with a time of 2:33:21.
"I was very happy to win this race," Kogo said. "I was not expecting to win because the course was very tough and I didn't train for all the hills, but I am very happy."
Malcolm Campbell, of Marietta, won second place with a time of 2:33:56, and Belay Kassa, of Stone Mountain, won third place in 2:38:41.
Justyna Mudy, of Rome, won first place in the female division with a time of 2:56:24.
The first-place winner of the half marathon was Nathan Haskins, of Atlanta, who finished in 1:11:31.
Health and Fitness Expo
Thousands of people stopped by the Georgia World Congress Center this weekend to pick up their registration packets for the Publix Georgia Marathon.
While they were there, they had a chance to browse through dozens of exhibitors booths at the Health and Fitness Expo tied to the event.
Vendors were getting ready early for a big Saturday rush at the expo.
Their goal: Show off the latest and greatest products and ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
"We're looking forward to inspiring people," said Michele Langevine, a volunteer at Olympian Jeff Galloway's booth.
Galloway was promoting two upcoming races, one of which is a brand new half marathon for Atlanta to be held in December.
To entice attendees to check out their booths, exhibitors used prize wheels liberally; the clacking of the pegged boards could be heard constantly throughout the expo, and the amount of free swag people were carrying provided evidence of their success.
"Everybody likes a freebie, right?" questioned Robin Sansone, a runner stopping by to pick up her packet.
Attendees weren't the only big winners, at least one of the exhibitors was pleased with how the show turned out for them.
Ooh La La Gourmet's Buddy Fruits brand launched a new line of healthy on-the-go snacks designed for active adults at the expo.
"We were so, so busy, and we've gotten great feedback from consumers that are here and they haven't seen it yet because we are launching it here at the expo," said Catherine Vieira, vice president of national accounts.
With a lot of competition from other vendors, the fruit and Greek yogurt filled pouches got an endorsement from Vicki Roberts, a mom who is familiar with the brand because she buys the kids version for her daughter.
"It's so easy to take on the go, we're always running out of the house so I'm gonna try it and probably buy 'em," said Roberts.
Whether they were selling their wares or giving them away for free, one thing was for certain: many of the vendors had nearly as much fun as the people browsing the aisles.
"It's kind of like this huge running community, and we just come out and we get to share tips with each other as well as wish each other good luck," said Angelin Miller a volunteer working the expo for local running store Phidippides. "It's really cool to be involved in something that's also part of the community; a health community."
