Richmond, VA -- (Sports Network) - T.J. Gwynn scored 20 points off the bench on 8-of-8 shooting from the floor to help his Virginia Commonwealth Rams post an 82-59 victory over The Citadel Bulldogs in a Cancun Challenge regional game.

Eric Maynor tallied 12 points and seven assists for VCU (1-0), which got 11 points from Ed Nixon and 10 points from Joey Rodriguez.

Austin Dahn posted 13 points in the setback for The Citadel (1-1), while Cameron Wells added 11 points.

VCU led 42-28 at intermission after limiting The Citadel to 39.3 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.

The Rams connected on 60 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half, including a 5-of-7 effort from three-point range, to seal the victory.

The Citadel committed 23 turnovers in the tilt, the most obvious reason for the lopsided setback.
