GAME NOTES: The sixth-seeded College of Charleston Cougars and the third- seeded Georgia Southern Eagles clash in tonight's quarterfinal round matchup of the Southern Conference Tournament. The team that comes out on top will hook up with either Chattanooga or Elon in the semifinals on Sunday. The Cougars got their tournament play underway on Friday with a convincing 66-48 triumph over 11th-seeded The Citadel. It was the third win in a row for the CofC, which improved to 12-8 all-time in this event. The Cougars, who lost in the finals to Davidson last season, are in search of their first title since 1999. As for GSU, it limps into this tourney, losers of three straight games. Despite the slide, the Eagles' 13-7 was enough for them to earn the third seed and a first round bye. GSU has gone 12-14 all-time in the SoCon Tournament, but it has yet to take home the hardware. The Eagles and Cougars split a pair of meetings during the regular season, with the CofC taking the most recent one, 91-86, on February 28th.

The Cougars shot a solid 53.5 percent from the field, including an 8-of-18 effort from long range, as they coasted past The Citadel last night. The team went an efficient 12-of-14 at the foul line and even won the battle on the glass, 31-20. Antwaine Wiggins led the way with 13 points and four steals, while Andrew Goudelock had 12 points. Tony White Jr. and Donovan Monroe also got involved, scoring 10 points apiece. For the season, Goudelock leads the team in scoring at 13.4 ppg and he is shooting 42.4 percent from long distance. White Jr. is hot in his tail with 13.2 ppg, while Jermaine Johnson turns in 11.1 ppg and a team-high 8.6 rpg. Dustin Scott adds 10.3 ppg and 6.5 rpg for the Cougars, who are scoring 72.4 ppg as a team.

At the offensive end of the court is where GSU can do some real damage, as it is producing a solid 75.1 ppg on the strength of 45.2 percent shooting from the field. Louis Graham is a player that can just about do it all and he tops the Eagles in scoring (16.8 ppg) and steals (52). He has also been effective on the boards, snaring 6.6 rpg. Willie Powers hits on 40.7 percent of his long- range attempts and he rounds out the double digit scorers with 11.4 ppg. Matt Fields is the team's leading rebounder with 7.2 rpg, and Dwayne Foreman runs the show with a club-high 6.1 apg to his credit.

The Cougars have the momentum on their side right now, and in what should be a high tempo game, go with the hotter team in the CofC.

Predicted Outcome

College of Charleston 79, Georgia Southern 75
