(Sports Network) - Cavel Witter buried a three-pointer with 3.2 seconds remaining to lift the Creighton Bluejays to a 74-73 victory over the Rhode Island Rams in first-round action of the NIT at the Qwest Center.

Booker Woodfox and P'Allen Stinnett tallied 22 points apiece in the win for third-seeded Creighton (22-10), while Witter added 10 points despite a 1-of-8 shooting performance from the field. Dane Watts pulled down 10 rebounds for the Bluejays.

Will Daniels scored 16 points to pace sixth-seeded Rhode Island (21-12), while Jimmy Baron tallied 13 points. Lamonte Ulmer netted 12 points to go with eight rebounds, and Kahiem Seawright collected 10 boards in the losing effort.

The Rams shot 52.9 percent from the floor during the first period while holding the Bluejays to a mere 33.3 percent shooting clip, opening a 45-30 halftime lead for Rhode Island.

The Bluejays battled back during the second stanza, holding the Rams to 31.0 percent shooting from the field to erase a 17-point deficit and earn the one-point victory.

Creighton advances to the second round to face the winner of tomorrow's clash between seventh-seeded San Diego State and second-seeded Florida.
