POSTED: 7:54 pm EST November 16, 2008

(Sports Network) - Jeffrey Taylor scored 16 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Vanderbilt Commodores defeated the Morehead State Eagles, 74-48, in the first game of the Cancun Challenge.

A.J. Ogilvy and Brad Tinsley both tallied 12 points for the Commodores (1-0) in their season-opening win, while Lance Goulbourne and Jermaine Beal accounted for 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Eagles (0-2) were paced by Robert Murry and Terrance Hill who both scored 10 points, the former doing so on the strength of an 8-of-8 effort at the free-throw line.

Morehead State scored the first points of the contest, but the team managed a mere eight field goals for the entire first half, permitting Vandy to take a 31-24 edge at the break.

The Eagles again had trouble producing field goals in the second half, hitting just 9-of-30, en route to the 26-point setback.

In addition to limiting the visitors to 34 percent shooting from the floor, the Commodores also forced 21 turnovers and outscored the Eagles at the free- throw line, 22-9.
