NCAA Game Summary - Wofford Vs. Davidson

POSTED: 6:23 pm EST March 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - Stephen Curry scored 19 points as 25th- ranked Davidson walloped Wofford, 82-49, to extend the nation's best winning streak to 20 games and advance to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament.

Curry, the conference's Player of the Year, connected on 7-of-14 shots and hit 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Bryant Barr tallied 17 points, making 5-of-8 three-point shots, for the Wildcats (24-6), who will next face UNC-Greensboro in the semifinal round on Sunday.

Davidson, which earned the top seed and a first-round bye in the tourney, has won 34 consecutive games against conference foes and 45 of its last 46. The impressive overall and Southern streaks helped the Wildcats land in the top-25 poll for the first time since the 1969-70 campaign.

Jason Richards contributed 13 points and distributed seven assists for the Wildcats, who are defending the last two Southern Tournament titles. Andrew Lovedale reeled in 11 rebounds to go with four points, helping Davidson down the Terriers for the seventh straight meeting.

Drew Gibson notched 24 points and four assists for Wofford (16-16), which had won back-to-back games following a six-game losing skid before the Wildcats ended their season. The Terriers captured a 58-49 win over ninth-seeded Western Carolina on Friday in first-round action, but were unable to continue their winning ways, as they slipped to 5-10 all-time in the Southern tourney.

Davidson took a 15-12 lead and turned it into a 22-point advantage when it ripped off a remarkable 28-9 run. Lovedale's two-pointer sparked the streak, followed by back-to-back treys from Barr. By the time Curry buried a bucket from beyond the arc, the Wildcats had surged ahead, 43-21, moments before the finish of the first frame.

The Terriers managed a basket before heading to the locker room, trailing 43-23 at the half.

Out of the intermission, Davidson added to its advantage. Curry stroked successive three-pointers, and the Wildcats went on to outscore the Terriers 39-26 in the second stanza, as Wofford never came close to threatening the Davidson lead.
