POSTED: 6:48 pm EST November 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - Matthew Szczur scored a running, receiving and kickoff touchdown, as the Villanova Wildcats defeated the Colgate Red Raiders, 55-28, in the first round of the FCS playoffs.

Aaron Ball ran for 92 yards and two scores and Angelo Babbaro, Phil Atkinson and Anthony Lucidonio each had a touchdown on the ground for Villanova (10-2), which plays James Madison in the quarterfinals. Chris Whitney went 5-for-7 passing with 86 yards and a score.

Jordan Scott had 27 carries for 94 yards and three scores while Greg Sullivan went 15-for-22 with 168 yards and a score for Colgate (9-3).

Szczur took the opening kickoff 91 yards into the end zone and Ball later added a six-yard run in the first quarter.

Colgate countered with a two-yard touchdown run from Scott with 1:22 left in the first, but the Wildcats scored 28 straight points in the second quarter, including a 65-yard scoring run from Atkinson, to take a 41-7 lead into the break.

The Raiders scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but they were down by 41 points to start the frame and the deficit proved to be too much to overcome.
