NCAA Game Summary - Connecticut At Syracuse

(Sports Network) - Donald Brown rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown, as the Connecticut Huskies defeated the Syracuse Orange, 39-14, in a Big East Showdown at the Carrier Dome.

Jordan Todman added 78 yards and a touchdown on six carries for UConn (7-3, 3-2 BE), which went for 259 yards on the ground as a team.

Curtis Brinkley headed the charge for Syracuse (2-8,1-5), rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

UConn's Dave Teggart booted a 23-yard field goal late in the first quarter and that accounted for the only points of the frame.

Teggart than drilled a 37-yard field goal early in the second quarter.

The Orange responded moments later with a blocked punt that it recovered in the end zone.

UConn countered with a safety and a 50-yard touchdown run by Todman, giving it a 15-7 lead.

Brinkley made it a 15-14 game following a one-yard plunge late in the first half.

With just under two minutes left, Brown scampered 49 yards for a touchdown and the Huskies held a 22-14 lead at the break.

UConn scored all 17 points of the second half, with each score coming in the third quarter. Teggart hit a 21-yard field goal early in the period before Jasper Howard returned a punt 69 yards for a touchdown. In the closing moments of the third quarter, Robert McClain picked off a pass and took it back 37 yards for a touchdown and a 39-14 lead.

The Huskies' defense was stout in this one, as they unit recorded five sacks and forced three turnovers, while also holding Syracuse to just 147 total yards.
