Atlantic 10 Awards Victory To Maine

POSTED: :44 EDT September 26, 2003

The Presidents of the Atlantic 10 Football Conference awarded the University of Maine a victory and the College of William & Mary a no-contest as a result of the cancellation of their contest scheduled for September 27 in Williamsburg, VA.

The Presidents of the conference made their decision based on the recommendation of the league's athletic directors. Factored into the decision was Maine's effort to play the game. The Black Bears were willing to choose an alternate site in Virginia or host the contest and pay the expenses incurred by the Tribe.

The game was scrapped by William & Mary in order to deal with continuing concerns about the safety of the campus in the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel.

Maine's record improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic 10. William & Mary remains 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
