Small Won't Be Back At NC A&T

POSTED: 8:57 pm EST November 22, 2005

North Carolina A&T announced Tuesday that head football coach George Small and his staff won't be back for the 2006 season.

Small became head coach at the school in January 2003. That year, the Aggies finished 10-3, including a 6-1 mark in the MEAC to win the conference championship. However, the Aggies have finished with identical 3-8 marks the last two seasons. They dropped their final five games this season.

"In line with our commitment to the development of student-athletes and to our Division I-AA status, we feel that it is in the best interest of our football program to make this change," said school athletic director Dee Todd. "This allows the university to begin the process of finding coach Small's successor."

The school announced Small's replacement would have experience at the Division I-A level.
