NCAA Game Summary - Vanderbilt At Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, NC -- (Sports Network) - The Demon Deacons rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns, as Wake Forest was able to grab a strong, 23-10 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores in a non-conference battle at BB&T Field. Brandon Pendergrass led the ground attack with 45 yards, and also scored one of the three rushing TDs for Wake Forest (7-5). Kevin Harris, who also found the end zone, finished with 36 yards on 5.1 ypc. Larry Smith threw a touchdown for Vandy (6-6), but the quarterback completed just 9-of-17 passes for 46 yards in the loss. Bryant Hahnfeldt put the Commodores on the scoreboard first with a 33-yard field goal. The Demon Deacons evened the score at 3-3 late in the first quarter with a 42- yard field goal by Sam Swank. Pendergrass' six-yard touchdown run early in the second stanza gave the Deacons a 10-3 lead. Wake Forest pushed its advantage to 17-3 with an eight-yard touchdown run by Harris midway through the third frame. Seconds into the final quarter the Commodores cut their deficit to 17-10 with a five-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Brandon Barden. However, the Demon Deacons put the game away for good with a four-yard touchdown scamper by Rich Belton late in the fourth frame.
