Listen up!Class is in session. It's pay-per-view time again, with "Against All Odds" playing out Sunday night in Greenville, S.C.So what happened at the TNA show? That's why I'm here.
Challenge Match: Traci Brooks vs. Payton Banks
What Should Happen: Brooks used to be Robert Roode's manager/valet whom he always treated lousily. Banks took over, but looks just like Brooks. Why are they fighting? I don't know. But I'm having a hard time stifling a big … yaaaaaaaaawwwwnn.
What Will Happen: Brooks will defeat her doppelganger.
What Did Happen: I'm glad it was short. Brooks won.
Challenge Match: Booker T vs. Robert Roode
What Should Happen: Booker, still slumming on the under card, continues his feud with Roode. I guess this isn't a terrible program. Booker seems too crazy lately, though. It's as if he's getting ready for a heel turn. That might be best, actually. He's a bit of a boring babyface. Here, Booker is defending the honor of his wife, Sharmell -- whom Roode injured.
What Will Happen: I'm taking Booker T to win.
What Did Happen: This one was a double-countout. Technically, it was a wrong guess. I hate paying for non-finishes!
Hardcore Street Fight: Motor City Machineguns and Jay Lethal vs. Team 3D and Johnny Devine
What Should Happen: In this one, if Team 3D wins, the X-Division is abolished. Which it should be since TNA has basically dismantled it anyway. It was the best part of this promotion at one time, now it's a joke.
What Will Happen: Like the Kennedys and the Clintons, the pathetic X-Division will somehow survive to fight another day. Lethal and his pals will win.
What Did Happen: Lethal pinned Devine for the win.
TNA World Tag Team Championship Match: A.J. Styles and Tomko (c) vs. B.G. James and Bob Armstrong
What Should Happen: Styles and Tomko are bickering over A.J.'s allegiance to Kurt Angle. James recruited his real-life father, Armstrong, to be his tag partner. This is textbook title-change stuff. The novelty of a really old guy having a belt is supposed to make headlines. Should it happen? Why not? It's only wrestling, and Tomko is better off as a face taking on Styles anyway.
What Will Happen: James and Armstrong will win the tag titles.
What Did Happen: B.G. suffered a leg injury during the match and got pinned by Tomko.
TNA Women's Championship Match: Awesome Kong (c) vs. ODB
What Should Happen: ODB is strangely popular. I can't figure out why. But I wouldn't take the belt off of Awesome Kong for a while. She's pretty awesome in the killer heel monster role, which you don't see much these days in women's wrestling.
What Will Happen: Awesome Kong will retain her title.
What Did Happen: ODB got in some offense, but ultimately lost. Kong keeps her belt.
Barbed Wire Massacre Match: Judas Mesias vs. Abyss
What Should Happen: I think it would be refreshing if both of these guys got haircuts, dropped their insane personalities and actually showed the world they could wrestle. But they can't, so they need the demonic gimmicks. Who is TNA marketing these guys to anyway? Professor Jr., 11, was asked what he thought of these jokers. "They're cool," he said. Oh well. What Will Happen: I'm guessing Abyss will win what is slated to be a very bloody contest, where the ropes will be replaced by barbed wire.
What Did Happen:Bloody and violent, but strangely boring. Abyss won.
TNA Heavyweight Championship Match: Kurt Angle (c) vs. Christian Cage
What Should Happen: On paper, I like this one. If both of these guys gave it their all in a 45-minute match with no interference, it could easily be a four-star contest. But this is TNA. Needless interference will be part of the act. Samoa Joe, for starters, is the special referee. A.J. Styles and Tomko -- tag team partners -- are split on their allegiance between Angle (Styles) and Cage (Tomko). I'm guessing this one will be a total mess.
What Will Happen: Cage will win the TNA title after Tomko stops Styles from interfering.
What Did Happen: Tomko interfered, nailing Cage with his finisher. Angle retained his title.
That's it. Four right and three wrong on this night. That's still batting better than .500 kids. Have I ever mentioned that with a batting average like that, I'm in the hall of fame? Sure I have. It's true. Dang true.Class is dismissed!(Professor Wrestling is a masked employee of Internet Broadcasting, hailing from Parts Unknown. Got a question, comment, complaint? E-mail him right here. )
