VIENNA, Va. -- He starred in one of the biggest hits in television history, has done film, musical theater and even tried his hand at opera -- but Jason Alexander is now being asked to travel a different path and he's not sure he's ready.

Alexander told AP Radio that California Democrats have approached him about running for state Senate.

The actor said that the offer "fascinates" him and "interests him" but he doesn't know that it "calls to" him.

Another reason for his reluctance to run may be that Alexander feels that the state is an "ungovernable wasteland."

Alexander said that if he ever did run for office, it certainly wouldn't happen until his kids are grown.
