ATLANTA -- Three people with personal connections to death row sentences joined the push on Tuesday to keep a Georgia man from being executed.A woman who misidentified a man as her rapist, sending him to prison for more than a decade, and two men who were sent to death row for murders they didn't commit shared their stories in hopes of keeping Troy Davis from being executed.Davis was sentenced to death for the murder of a Savannah police officer.Gary Drinkard, one of the two men freed from Death Row, said that many people are wrongly convicted of offenses that landed them on Death Row.
""I'm one of 24 people in this country exonerated in the last 20 years from death row," Drinkard said.Jennifer Thompson-Cannino misidentified a man as her rapist and says the system is not perfect."My story is one of being re-victimized by the system that often overlooks truth in close cases so society feels safer."The trio said justice needs to be given another chance in the case of Troy Davis.Witnesses from Davis' trial said they lied and believe another man is guilty of the killing. The officer's family is not happy that the parole board stayed Davis' execution last month and said that it shows you can kill a cop and get away with it.A rally was held on Tuesday for Davis at the Georgia Capitol. Participants focuses on the idea that you can't assume a guilty verdict means the suspect really committed the crime. This fall, the state supreme court will consider whether Davis should get a new trial.
