UNC Extends Hatchell Four Years

POSTED: 4:13 pm EDT July 25, 2008

(Sports Network) - University of North Carolina head women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell received a four-year contract extension on Friday, keeping the Hall of Fame coach with the team through 2015.

The contract will average $330,000 over the next seven years and will serve as a second amendment to a contract initially signed in 2002 and amended in 2006.

Hatchell led the Tar Heels to a fourth consecutive ACC title last season in her 22nd season at the helm. She led North Carolina to an NCAA championship in 1994 and two Final Four appearances in the last four years, having reached at least the NCAA regional final in the other two.

A two-time national coach of the year, Hatchell earned an ACC Coach of the Year honor last season after leading the team to a 33-3 record with regular season and tournament championships. The member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame boasts an overall record of 784-275 over 33 seasons as a collegiate head coach, including a 512-195 mark at North Carolina.
