(Sports Network) - Brett Myers' season turnaround began with a victory over Washington almost a month ago. The Philadelphia Phillies hurler will try to continue his resurgence against the Nationals tonight, and hand them their 12th straight loss in the process, in the continuation of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

Philadelphia's Opening Day starter this year, Myers was just 3-9 with a 5.84 earned run average before accepting an assignment to the minor leagues to try and work out of his slump. He returned to the big leagues on July 23 versus the Mets and allowed three runs over five innings, but returned to the hill six days later in Washington, where he held the Nationals to just an unearned run and four hits over seven innings for his first victory since May 30.

Myers, who turns 28 on Sunday, is now 2-1 with a 2.48 ERA in five starts since coming back to the majors and faced the Dodgers on Thursday. He took a loss however, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings with eight strikeouts.

The righty is 8-8 with a 4.61 ERA and four saves in 29 games, 19 of those starts, against Washington.

Myers should have a solid defense backing him on the left side tonight if the Phillies are able to activate Pedro Feliz from the disabled list. Feliz has been out since July 25 due to an ailing back and his hitting .256 this year with 12 homers and 46 RBI. He is batting .284 in his career against Washington in 39 games against the club.

Jayson Werth's career-high 17th homer broke an eighth inning tie in Monday's opener and lifted the Phils to a 5-4 victory, with closer Brad Lidge locking down his 31st save in as many chances.

Shane Victorino had a triple and a double in the win, while Greg Dobbs, Geoff Jenkins and Chris Coste each hit a sacrifice fly in the win, Philadelphia's third in four games. The club also kept pace in the National League East, remaining 1 1/2 games back of first-place New York.

Washington outhit Philadelphia 11-7, getting a 4-for-4 day out of Ronnie Belliard and a solo homer from Willie Harris, but still extended its losing streak to 11 games, the longest since moving to Washington prior to the 2005 season. It is also the franchises' longest skid since the Montreal Expos lost 11 straight from June 23-July 4, 1991.

Washington won three of its first four versus the Phillies this year, but has now dropped six straight to them after losing the season series, 12-6, last year.

Collin Balester takes the hill for Washington on Tuesday and has lost back-to- back starts. The 22-year-old faced the Mets on Thursday, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks over six innings. Balester is 2-5 with a 5.06 ERA this year.

The right-hander faced the Phillies for the first time in his career on July 29 and took the loss despite allowing just two runs on six hits in a 2-1 setback.
