Hawks Add Depth With Evans

POSTED: 5:53 pm EDT July 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks signed forward/guard Maurice Evans on Tuesday.

Evans averaged 8.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 75 games last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic.

"We are pleased to add a veteran player with Mo's talents and experience to our squad," said general manager Rick Sund. "He is a quality defender who gives us a physical and athletic presence, whether it's serving as a starter or coming off the bench. We are getting a solid player who is coming off his best statistical season, and who also has the talents to spread things on offense with his three-point shooting ability."

The five-year veteran, who has also played for the Timberwolves, Kings and Pistons, is averaging 7.0 points and 2.6 boards in his NBA career.

The University of Texas product is expected to play the role of the sixth man for the Hawks.
