Hawks Sign Center Morris

POSTED: 5:04 pm EDT July 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks signed center Randolph Morris to a contract, the club announced Wednesday, though terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Morris spent the last two seasons with the New York Knicks and saw limited time. After playing in just five games in his rookie year, last season Morris played in 18 games -- two starts -- and averaged 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds.

The 6-foot-11 Morris provides another tall body in the Hawks frontcourt, as he joins centers Al Horford and Zaza Pachulia.

"We can certainly use a player like Randolph, whose addition will give us much-needed depth at the center position," said Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson. "We like what we saw of him during our summer league workouts, and we believe he will continue to develop his skills to become a talented player in our league."

Morris, who went to high school in Atlanta, declared his eligibility for the 2005 NBA Draft after his freshman year at Kentucky. He did not sign with an agent and went undrafted, and sat out the first 14 games of his sophomore season with the Wildcats. He eventually returned, with free agent status, and posted career averages of 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds in three seasons (89 games) at Kentucky.
