Gag Order Approved In Lauren Burk Case

POSTED: 3:36 pm EDT April 26, 2008

A judge approved a gag order Saturday in the case of a man accused of fatally shooting an Auburn University student.

Lee County District Court Judge Russell Bush issued the order to curb pretrial publicity that could influence potential jurors' views of defendant Courtney Lockhart.

Bush ordered that parties involved in the case, including attorneys, witnesses and law enforcement officials may not release information about the case to the news media.

Lockhart, 23, has been charged with capital murder in the March 4 death of Lauren Burk, 18. The case will go to a Lee County grand jury.

The freshman from Marietta, Ga. was found March 4 on a roadside about five miles from the university and her car was found later burning in a campus parking lot. She died later that night.
