WASHINGTON -- The Air Transport Association predicted Tuesday that more than 211 million passengers will travel on domestic carriers between June 1 and August 31.That would be a 1.3 percent drop from last summer. The ATA said that airlines are reducing carrying capacity due to rising jet fuel prices. The group said planes will be nearly 85 percent full, and that delays emanating from New York-area airports will remain a problem.
Some large U.S. carriers last week said they raised ticket prices to offset surging fuel costs, and the group said further airfare increases this summer are "inevitable."
