AP award winning sportscaster Mark Harmon delivers the weekend sports for CBS 46 News.Harmon notes that covering Holyfield-Tyson 2, the “Bite Fight” is his most memorable assignment. Harmon says Atlanta is a great sports town and he really appreciates year round golf. His outside interests include golf, tennis, fishing, jogging and taking his dog for a walk in the park.He has won several awards for his professional reporting, including eight Associated Press first place awards for Best Sportscast in Georgia in 1992, 1996, 2000-2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and AP Best Sports Report 1998-2000.He resides in DeKalb County with his wife. Some of his favorite Atlanta and Georgia places include: Callaway Gardens, Helen, the North Georgia Mountains, Stone Mountain Park and Madison.
Mark grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated from the University of Notre Dame. He is very proud that the year he graduated, 1978, was the year Joe Montana and the Irish won the National Championship by winning the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.Harmon’s career began in Peoria, Illinois at WMBD-TV-AM/FM where he did early morning radio news and TV news reporting. He later moved to Rockford, Illinois to a new position as a TV sports reporter, anchor and photographer.Harmon’s career continued with sports reporting stints in Indianapolis, Syracuse, New York, Springfield, Missouri, and Lansing, Michigan.Send Mark an e-mail at mark.harmon@cbs46.com
