NFL Preseason Preview - Chicago (0-1) At Seattle (1-0)

POSTED: 12:19 pm EDT August 13, 2008

(Sports Network) - The quarterback battle between Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman will take center stage once again on Saturday night, when the Chicago Bears and their two signal-calling candidates visit the Seattle Seahawks at Qwest Field.

Orton and Grossman, both of whom have experience as starters for the Bears, failed to distinguish themselves in last Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Orton started the game and completed 7-of-10 passes for 56 yards with a third- down fumble (recovered by Orton), while Grossman succeeded him and hit on 4- of-8 throws for 44 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown pass on a dump-off to running back Garrett Wolfe.

Grossman is expected to start against the Seahawks and play most of the first half, with Orton following him in the lineup.

Also worth watching for the Bears will be the work of a running game that is in transition after ex-starter Cedric Benson was released prior to training camp.

Second-round draft choice Matt Forte (Tulane) carried seven times for 25 yards against the Chiefs last week, and was out-produced by incumbents Wolfe (7 carries, 64 yards) and Adrian Peterson (3 carries, 28 yards).

Ex-Lion Kevin Jones (knee), who was signed in July and is expected to become part of the backfield discussion, did not play against Kansas City and is unlikely to suit up in Seattle.

Elsewhere on the injury front for Chicago, first-round left tackle Chris Williams (back) remains out, as does guard Terrence Metcalf (knee).

While the Bears are vying for stronger play on Saturday, the Seahawks will simply be seeking a repeat of their solid showing in last Friday's 34-17 win over the Vikings.

Seattle's 34 points were tied for the most in the league during the first week of the preseason, with 17 of those coming in the first quarter when most of both teams' first units were on the field.

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was a near-perfect 7-of-8 passing for 70 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown pass to wideout Jordan Kent, while backup Seneca Wallace threw three scoring strikes on a 15-for-20, 165-yard passing night.

The Seahawks also racked up 162 yards on the ground, including 62 on a mere six carries from Maurice Morris.

Wideouts Bobby Engram (shoulder) and Deion Branch (knee) will be among the notable absences for the Seahawks. Engram is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a broken shoulder sustained against Minnesota, while Branch remains on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list.

Hasselbeck (back) has been bothered by a stiff back this week and could be limited, or held out altogether, against Chicago.

The Bears and Seahawks will be meeting in preseason play for the first time since 1978, when Seattle scored a 16-7 home victory at the Kingdome. The all- time preseason series between the clubs is deadlocked, 1-1.

The Seahawks were also 30-23 home winners when the teams met in regular season play last Nov. 18.
