NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay Vs. NY Rangers

POSTED: 2:48 pm EDT October 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - Wade Redden and Scott Gomez each scored a goal and assisted on another, as the New York Rangers completed a European sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning with another 2-1 victory at the O2 Arena.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 18 shots in the victory, one day after turning aside 20 in a 2-1 Ranger win. Markus Naslund notched an assist on Sunday after scoring one of New York's goals in Saturday's opener.

Adam Hall scored the lone goal for the Lightning, who were outshot 39-19. Olaf Kolzig made 37 saves in defeat.

The Rangers outshot the Lightning 15-3 in the first period, but left the ice trailing 1-0. They continued to apply pressure at the start of the second period and finally cashed in on a power play at the 3:47 mark to tie it.

After Jussi Jokinen went off for tripping, New York worked the puck around the perimeter before Naslund made a pass from below the right circle into the slot. Redden quickly re-directed it home for his first goal as a Ranger.

Redden, who signed as a free agent in July after spending 11 seasons with Ottawa, then assisted on the second New York goal. His shot from the point was deflected in front of Kolzig and the puck slipped to the right side of the crease for an unchecked Gomez, who swept it into the empty cage for his first goal at the 12:12 mark.

Lundqvist needed to make just six saves in the second period, then turned aside 10 in the third.

The Lightning, despite being completely outplayed in the first period, grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the stanza. Chris Gratton won a right-circle draw and the puck went back to the right point for Andrej Meszaros, who sent a shot toward the net. Hall was able to deflect it in midair and the puck squeezed through the pads of Lundqvist before trickling into the net with 1:43 to play.

Game Notes:

New York was 1-for-4 on the power play and killed off each of Tampa Bay's five chances with the extra skater...The Rangers will return home to face the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday at Madison Square Garden...The Lightning won't play again until Saturday at home against Carolina.
