Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson has been offered a two-year extension, a person close to the negotiations said Thursday.

The person familiar with the situation requested anonymity because the negotiations are ongoing.

Woodson's contract will expire at the end of June.

New Hawks general manager Rick Sund would not confirm the offer to Woodson on Thursday night. "I'm not commenting on anything until we have news," Sund said.

On Tuesday, Woodson told The Associated Press he was still in a "feel-out process" with Sund. "We're getting to know each other," Woodson said. "That's where we are. We'll play it by ear and just see."

Former Hawks general manager Billy Knight, who resigned after the season, tried to fire Woodson at the trade deadline. The Hawks owners stayed with Woodson.

Woodson could not be reached for comment on Thursday.

Sund was hired on May 28.

Woodson's record is 106-222. The Hawks' win total has improved in each of his four years. They ended the NBA's longest playoff drought this season, when they were 37-45.
