Georgia football fans will be without a mascot for a while longer.

The Seiler family of Savannah, which has provided the bulldog mascots for the team since 1956, has not chosen a successor to UGA VI, who died of heart failure on June 27. Uga VI had been expected to continue as mascot this season.

Frank Seiler, whose family pet became the original UGA, says they have several alternatives and haven't had a chance to sit down and review them all.

In the past, the mascot has appeared at fans picture day before the season, an event tentatively scheduled for Aug. 16.

Fans may growl, but Seiler said the new dog won't attend. He says UGA VII will be ready for the season opener against Georgia Southern on Aug. 30.
