On Saturday night, WGCL-TV, Meredith Broadcasting’s CBS affiliate in Atlanta, brought home the top news honor from the 2008 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Southeast Regional Emmy Awards.

CBS 46 News at 11:00pm was awarded the Emmy for Best Daily Newscast. CBS 46 bested three competitors from Atlanta.

Tonight’s Top Stories and Tomorrow’s Forecast In The First Five Minutes at 11:00pm resonates with viewers and we’re very happy the newscast appeals to our peers, who honored us with this award.”

CBS 46’s Jeff Gilbert was also awarded an Emmy as outstanding Newscast Director for his work on Atlanta’s only 4:00pm newscast, CBS 46 News at 4:00pm.

The 2008 (NATAS) Southeast Regional Emmy Awards were presented on June 21st at the Buckhead Grand Hyatt in Atlanta. The Emmy Awards recognize excellence within various areas of the television industry. The awards are a symbol of peer recognition from over 12,000 members of the Academy. Each member casts a ballot for the category of competition in their field of expertise.
