State: 'SEA Does Not Need License' 3-16-2010

By Adam Murphy, CBS Atlanta Consumer Investigator
ATLANTACBS Atlanta News began looking into Southeast Energy Assistance after some residents complained about the non-profit group’s quality of workmanship.
The Secretary of State's office initially told CBS Atlanta that SEA was operating without a license.
The state also said SEA should have obtained a license after the licensing board was established in 2008.
After further review by the state, the licensing board decided that SEA does not need a license to operate and they never needed one.
The state said, "The board voted to amend the limited service specialty contractors list to include low-income weatherization and energy efficiency."
SEA’s executive director responded with this statement:
"As a direct result of your reporting, we sought confirmation of our status as a LSSC (limited service specialty contractor). We are pleased that the outcome of our appearance before the state contractor licensing board was the creation of an additional specialty contractor listing for low-income weatherization and energy efficiency."
CBS Atlanta also learned that all five of SEA's subcontractors are properly licensed.
