DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.DeKalb County police are looking for the person who shot two men inside a Glenwood Road motel early Thursday morning.
The double shooting happened at the Friendship Inn, formerly a Super 8 Motel, just outside the Interstate 285 perimeter.
One man died at the scene. Family members identified him as Casey Durham, Jr., 25, a father of two with a third child on the way.
Asia Brown rushed to the scene in tears, when she learned of her ex-boyfriend's death. She told CBS Atlanta News that Durham was her daughter's father.
“He and my daughter just went to the circus two days ago," said Brown. "I just wish that we had a chance to say goodbye so she could see him one more time. She’s only two.”
Paramedics rushed a second victim, who was critically wounded, to Grady Memorial hospital, police said. Neighbors only knew the man by his nickname, "Preacher Man."
Police interviewed witnesses, including a woman who investigators believe was nearby when the shooting happened.
Police did not immediately release a motive in the case. Brittney Williams has a theory. She said she's lived at the motel for three years. “They probably was trying to rob him or something. Ain’t no telling,” Williams said.
