ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration will investigate what led a construction worker to fall to his death at a high school in southwest Atlanta.

Carlos Garcia was an employee of Shumate Air Conditioning and Heating, part of a construction team that was Renovating Mays High School on Benjamin E. Mays Drive in southwest Atlanta.

Garcia was on a hydraulic lift when a pipe fell and hit the machinery he was in, sending him falling 20 feet, police said. He died at the scene after hitting his head on the ground, police said.

Brent Reid, president and CEO of Winter Construction, the lead contractor on the project, said the exact chain of events that led to Garcia to fall is under investigation.

"At this point we do not have details. It's a tragic day and our thoughts and prayers go out to family," Reid said.

CBS Atlanta News is following this developing story and CBSAtlanta.com will have more information as it becomes available.
