Cobb food pantry shelves bare, desperate for donations

Posted: Updated:

The Center For Family Resources, a non-profit feeding low income families, in Cobb County needs your help.

Their food pantry is looking bleak.

"Unfortunately we will have to give less and less until we have to tell folks there's not any food to give," Susie Ivy, a spokeswoman for the center said.

That would be Ivy's worst fear.

The food they have now will last less than two weeks.

"I was shocked. I've not seen completely bare shelves from one end to the next since I've been here," Ivy said.

The center tries to make sure children get a good mix of proteins, breads and milk.

Ivy said the demand for food is up 250% from the same time last year.

Families also come here for personal hygiene items.

The pantry is down to just two bags of ladies feminine care products.

Ivy says food stamps don't cover those.

"All of us know those are some of the most expensive items at the stores.  It's just something you can't go without," Ivy said.

The center encourages you to donate food from local gardens too.

"If you're into couponing, buy one get one free, consider keeping one for yourself and donating one to your local pantry," Ivy said.
