Golf fans hope to learn new techniques by watching pros

Golf fans hope their up-close view of the world's best golfers this weekend will improve their own game.

Grant Sutliff, 11, couldn't say no to the chance to come with his neighbors Friday to Day Two of this year's PGA Championship. They came early so they could watch some of their favorite players practice on the driving range before they hit the course.

"I think it's pretty cool," said Grant. "I see people on TV, and now I get to see them in real life actually hitting balls."

And boy, do they make it look easy.

"It's unbelievable how good they are," said his friend, Brendan McCabe.

"It's pretty cool," said Brendan's father Tim. "Just to be able to come down six miles and be able to see this great action, these great world players. It's a lot of fun."

Henry Carter's trip was a bit longer. He came from the small town of Kite, Ga., which is between Macon and Savannah.

"A lot of people like going to Nascar races," said Carter. "You can't get anywhere close to the drivers. Here, you can walk three feet from them."

Grant and Brendan had even closer encounters on Wednesday when they came to the Atlanta Athletic Club to watch a practice round.

"They like to spend time with most of their fans. I talked to pretty much all of them," said Grant.

"They'll take their time and do the whole line," said Brendan

When asked if he'll be out there on the range with the pros one day, Grant said, "I'm going to try."
