Neighborhood photographer pleads guilty to possession of child porn

ALPHARETTA, GA (CBS46) -

A 53-year-old Alpharetta man was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to 21 counts of child pornography in federal court.

According to the FBI, Dirk LaPaglia took photographs of over two dozen children and superimposed their faces over pornographic images, creating hundreds of such images.

Police said LaPaglia photographed the kids while serving as the photographer for several neighborhood functions.

"LaPaglia would crop the heads the upper torso to pornographic images creating his own pornographic images," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Mcburney.  "We have evidence the images moved between his work computer and home computer but no evidence of distribution."

Neighbors who live near LaPaglia said he has two daughters. According to an affidavit, LaPaglia is accused of taking pictures of his daughters' friends when they came over to his house for slumber parties.

The images, according to investigators, were photoshopped onto adult pornography and child pornography.

One of LaPaglia's neighbors who didn't want to be identified told CBS Atlanta's Mike Paluska that the arrest was disturbing.

"I had no idea he was a neighbor who you think is entirely normal," said the neighbor.  "You never know, you never know it's in your neighborhood.  It is really scary."

LaPaglia will have to register as a sex offender.  He was sentenced to six years in prison.
