Uncle charged in child's accidental shooting death

Posted: Updated:

Monday morning a Clayton County man remained behind bars, charged in his nephew's deadly shooting.

Police said Benny Kimbrough, 18, was in control of the gun when Anthony Clark, 6, shot himself in the head at a home on Old Rock Cut Road near Forest Park Saturday.

Kimbrough was charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and three counts of cruelty to children.

Sergeant Otis Willis of the Clayton County Police said the cruelty charges are due to there being other children in the room at the time of the shooting.

The child's mother said she left Kimbrough in charge of the children while she went to work.

"He (Anthony) wanted to be a motorcyclist when he grew up, such a sweetheart," said Tia Hill, Clark's mom.
