COLLEGE PARK, GA (CBS46) -
College Park police have made an arrest in the shooting of the Day and Night Cab driver.

The driver is recovering at Grady Hospital after he was shot after driving a customer to the Old Town Villa Apartments on Godby Road.

College Park police officers on scene said the driver, Bakary Njai, told them the shooter did not demand money or steal anything from the cab.

Bakary Njai's family spoke exclusively with CBS Atlanta's Katie Brace.

"I wouldn't expect no one to do this to my dad because my dad didn't anything to nobody," said Jainaba Njai, 12.

The family said Bakary Njai drove a truck for 10 years. He started as a cab driver in August to stay closer to his family.

"I thought I'd finally get to spend some time with him," said Jainaba Njai.

Ida Sosseh, wife, said he called her and told her to call 911. She said after she got to the hospital doctors told her he was shot nine times. She said he underwent two surgeries but some of the bullets were still in his abdomen.

"I am very, very angry because why would a person want to do that?" said Amie Njai, 25.

"He got shot three times, once in the stomach and two in the leg," said relative Tijan Njai, who spoke with CBS Atlanta's Hena Daniels.

The father of six just started working as a cab driver at Day & Night Taxi two months ago.

"He's got a big family in Gambia and he's got a big family here.  He's just trying to make a living," said relative Tijan Njai.

The driver's injuries are non-life-threatening, according to police.

Police are not releasing any information about the suspect at this time.
