MARTA fare increase, Breeze changes in effect

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

It will now cost you more to ride MARTA. Sunday, MARTA implemented a fare increase and several changes to the Breeze system.

Here is a list of all of the changes:

  • MARTA's base fare will increase from $2 to $2.50.
  • Monthly and weekly pass prices will increase.
  • MARTA will also continue to stagger increases for Mobility base fare, reduced fare and Mobility passes based on the previous Fiscal Year 2010 base fare increase. Mobility base fare, reduced fare and Mobility passes are not impacted by the Fiscal Year 2012 base fare increase.
  • Breeze tickets will no longer be sold.
  • Cobb, Gwinnett and GRTA customers will no longer receive AM/PM Transfers. If a customer is transferring between MARTA and another system, the customer will need to load the other system's fare onto a Breeze Card.
  • Customers will now be required to tap their Breeze card to exit the wide faregates in stations.
  • Customers will be able to load up to $300 in stored value onto the Breeze Card.

MARTA said the changes are part of its Fiscal Year 2012 budget. This will also included some bus service improvements, security enhancements and repair initiatives.
