MARTA Police Chief Wanda Dunham released a statement on Friday about Joetavious Stafford's shooting death.

Community plans another vigil for teen shot at MARTA station

I realize that there are many unanswered questions concerning the Vine City shooting incident on last Saturday night.  While I will not be able to comment directly about the shooting, let me assure you that I am committed to the investigative process currently underway.

As part of the MARTA Police Standard Operating Procedures, any time an officer is involved in a shooting on MARTA property the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) will conduct an independent investigation into the incident.

The GBI was contacted immediately, and the case was promptly turned over to them upon their arrival. We also contacted the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, which responded to the scene and will conduct their own independent investigation.

The MARTA Police Department has been and will continue to fully cooperate with these highly respected law enforcement agencies, and I am confident they will conduct a thorough and objective investigation.

While these investigations may take several months, I am asking the public to be patient and to wait until all the facts have been determined before making any judgments about this case.

Once all of the investigation results are presented to me, I will share that information with the public.

This remains an ongoing investigation, and I encourage anyone with  information about this incident to contact the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-597-8477.
