Woman sentenced for fatal stabbing

ATHENS, GA (AP) -

A 27-year-old woman has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for stabbing another woman to death at their home in southeastern Clarke County.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Superior Court Judge David Sweat issued the sentence Wednesday to Candie Nakella Scott.

A Clarke County jury convicted Scott last week in the August 2010 stabbing death of Candice Jacquetta Armour.

The judge said the women's relationship was pervaded by violence and tacked on 10 years to the maximum 20 years for voluntary manslaughter.

Athens attorney Edward Brumby defended Scott by telling jurors that Armour had provoked the fight that resulted in her death, and told Sweat that when jurors found his client guilty of manslaughter they sent a message of leniency.
