MARIETTA, GA (CBS46) -

Police in Marietta say two mixed martial arts fighters whose bodies were found in their home died as the result of a murder-suicide.

The victims were identified Thursday morning as 32-year-old Maryellen Cano and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Wilbur Carl " Sonny" South, both of Marietta.

Sources told CBS Atlanta there was a history of domestic violence between the on-again, off-again couple.

Cano's father reported her missing Wednesday night after not seeing her for two days.

Police went to Cano's home on Springdale Drive. Cano's car was in the driveway.

Search warrants for the home were secured shortly before midnight.

Georgia Fighters Magazine named Cano "Female Fighter of the Year" for 2010.

"They're both overall good people who helped out the community a lot, and I think they'll be sorely missed by the community. They were tough fighters, both of them," said Dave Oblas, co-publisher of the magazine.
