A puppy left for dead is thriving, thanks to a local rescue group.
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue received a call that a red nose pit bull puppy was in the care of a suspected drug dealer and was being abused.
"All we knew was she was probably being given drugs and we didn't know the extent of the abuse," said LuAnn Farrell, co-founder of the non-profit. "It was a horrible situation."
That's when volunteers stepped in and rescued "Pinky" right out of that bad situation. But she didn't escape without some serious injuries.
"We found out she was probably stomped, her head was probably stomped or there was severe trauma to the head, which caused her eye to come out," said Farrell.
"Pinky has ridden a roller coaster up and down, she really has," said Veterinarian Jeff Cribb, who worked on Pinky.
"Her face was fairly disfigured and pushed over to the left side," Cribb said. "It's a situation where you try to triage how you approach a patient like this, because of the number of medical issues she has."
Cribb removed Pinky's left eye and worked on her jaw. He also helped heal several of the pup's internal injuries, and Pinky pulled through.
"We tend to like to get the ones that won't have a chance otherwise, the ones that take some extra work and some extra time," Farrell said.
Because Pinky is bow-legged and her limbs are growing at a different pace, she may need treatment for years to come. But the pup is resilient.
"All we want is her to have a great home," Farrell said.
Cribb said someone with a big heart and a big budget may be best.
