CANTON, GA (CBS46) -

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that an arrest was made in the murder of a 7-year-old girl from Canton.

Jorelys Rivera disappeared from the River Ridge Apartments in Canton last Friday.

On Wednesday afternoon, police arrested 20-year-old Ryan Brunn at the apartment complex.

According to GBI Director Vernon Keenan, the police task force got a tip about Brunn and began putting together a criminal case against him.  They had him under surveillance since Tuesday night.

Keenan said that Brunn lived at the River Ridge apartment complex and also worked there as a maintenance man.

Jorelys' body was found Monday afternoon in a dumpster about 1,000 yards from the playground where she was abducted at the complex.

GBI Director Vernon Keenan said Jorelys was beaten, stabbed and sexually assaulted.

Keenan called the case against Brunn "mammoth," and said that while police believed Jorelys' murder was planned and calculated, they weren't sure if Brunn specifically targeted her.

Brunn's first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Cherokee County Magistrate Court.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Canton.

Jorelys' family will hold visitation on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Darby Funeral Home.
