When 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera went missing last Friday, one of the first things Cherokee County deputies did was check on sex offenders in her neighborhood.

They covered about a 10-mile radius from her home.

On Thursday, deputies hit the streets again - this time to make sure registered sex offenders are not violating probation.

While the operation was scheduled before Rivera's attack, it now emphasizes the importance of checking on sex offenders.

Twice a year, Cherokee County's Violent Incident Proactive Enforcement Response team makes surprise visits to sex offenders. Their goal is to make sure sex offenders aren't breaking the law.

About 30 law enforcement officers were out tracking sex offenders until midnight Thursday.

They went door-to-door checking addresses and searching homes and vehicles for inappropriate images of children.

It's a time-consuming job for deputies. In some cases the sex offender isn't home, which requires a follow up visit.

"If they are not in compliance they will be dealt with. If they are in compliance, we'll thank them for their time and be on our way," Lt. Jamie Gianfala said.

According to a Sheriff's office spokesman, deputies were able to make contact with 56 of the 62 registered offenders during Thursday's sweep.

Four men were arrested during the sweep for violating their probation: Steven Archer, 35; Charles Eden, 27; Daniel Judice, 24; and Shannon Byrd, 31.

Archer, Eden and Judice also face drug charges.  Archer bonded out, while the other three remain at the Cherokee County Jail.

A teen sex tape was found inside one sex offender's home.
