It was an emotional day at First Baptist Church Canton as family and friends said their final goodbyes to Joreyls Rivera.
"She was so playful and full of love," said Veronica Best, a family of the Rivera family. "It was really touching and beautiful everyone was just full of support and love for her."
Friends said the little girl with the giant smile touched many hearts.
"To see everyone today and the amount of people that honestly wept and mourn for her is incredible," Best said.
Through an interpreter, Joreyls' mom expressed gratitude for the embrace of the Canton community.
"If you knew her you would agree that she was a happy loving little girl, she really was," said Best.
Rivera's parents had planned to speak at the service, but friends said their emotions wouldn't allow it, but somehow one of Rivera's friends found the strength to speak from the heart.
"Her friend Emily spoke and she had written a letter to Joreyls and she said I wish you were here. I wish we could fly together to heaven and I miss you," Best said.
Following the service, mourners gathered outside the church for a special ending to a difficult day.
"A dove was given to all the family members and one dove was given to the parents. It was representing Joreyls spirit going to heaven and at a designated time everyone released the dove and it was a symbol that she was going gone, she was leaving," Best said.
Best said the Rivera's planned to fly to Puerto Rico Sunday to bury Joreyls.
