2 killed in auto accidents over Christmas weekend in Cobb County

MABLETON, GA (CBS46) -

Police in Cobb County are investigating two fatal auto accidents that happened over the Christmas weekend.

The first accident happened on Christmas around 10:15 p.m. on Pisgah Rd. in Mableton.

According to police, the driver, 18-year-old Eric Lynch, was driving a Honda Civic at a high rate of speed when he lost control on wet pavement and hit a utility pole on the side of the road.

Lynch, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the car.  He was taken to the hospital where he died.

The second fatal crash happened several hours later in Mableton. 

Police said that around 3 a.m., 27-year-old David W. Jones drove his truck off Oglesby Rd. and into some trees.

Jones, who also wasn't wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene of the wreck.  According to police, alcohol could have factored into the accident.
