Johns Creek denies zoning variance for RaceTrac

Posted: Updated:

The Johns Creek City Council voted down a zoning variance for gas station operator RaceTrac, who hoped to build a new store at Parsons Road and Medlock Bridge Road.

The decision came after months of debate and protest from neighbors living near the proposed site. RaceTrac spokespeople tried to convince the council that their store wouldn't be a traffic hazard as some neighbors feared Monday night, but city leaders voted down the variance 5-1.

"I think the outcome was wonderful," said Debbie Warford, who attended Monday's council meeting. "It represents most of the residents of Parsons Road."

A city spokeswoman said RaceTrac could appeal the City Council's decision.
