ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Southwest Airlines will start flying 15 daily, nonstop flights to destinations including Baltimore/Washington, Chicago Midway, Denver, Houston Hobby, and Austin, Texas on Sunday.

On Saturday, Georgia Aquarium will welcome the airline to Atlanta in an arrival ceremony scheduled to take place immediately following the airline's first ferry flight into Hartsfield-Jackson International.

Atlanta residents have awaited the Dallas-based carrier's arrival since it purchased AirTran Airways in May 2011.

Aquarium team members, including mascots, will be on hand to deliver a warm welcome to Atlanta's first Southwest guests.

Southwest's iconic mascot, Spirit, will also join the celebration.

"The Aquarium joins the rest of Atlanta in welcoming Southwest Airlines to our city. This marks an important day for Georgia residents looking to enjoy the service, convenience and perks offered by Southwest," announced Carey Rountree, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Georgia Aquarium.

Southwest offers no fees for guests' first two checked bags, open seating, and no change fees.

You can only book a flight on Southwest using their website.
