Newt Gingrich campaigns at state Capitol

Posted: Updated:

Super Tuesday is less than a week away and the Republican candidates are fanned out across the country trying to gain support. Newt Gingrich made stops across Georgia on Thursday.

"We are pleased we have so many members of the general assembly that have endorsed speaker Newt Gingrich for the Presidency of the United States," said Gov. Nathan Deal.

Deal introduced Gingrich in the capitol rotunda Wednesday. Deal supports Gingrich in his run for the Republican nomination for President.

"It's good to be back in the Capitol," said Gingrich.

Gingrich wasn't shy to admit he needs to win Georgia on Super Tuesday.

"That is the key building block that we have to have to move forward in the Presidential campaign, so Georgia really does matter," said Gingrich.

Gingrich also met with the House of Representatives. He spoke to the legislators about his plan for the Middle East and a new energy policy.  He also addressed the economy.

"I believe it is possible to have the kind of tax cuts, to have the kind of regulatory reform to get back to a country that is very dynamic, very decentralized where people go out and create new businesses and new jobs," said Gingrich.

Gingrich represented Georgia in Congress for 20 years, and says that time prepared him for what he hopes will be his next role.

"I believe that what I learned here, representing Georgia will serve me very, very well in the White House," said Gingrich.

Gingrich will make stops in Cobb and Cherokee counties Thursday.

Rick Santorum will be in Dalton and Atlanta. Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, will have a meet and greet tomorrow before the opening of Romney's Georgia headquarters.
