Senator Vincent Fort introduces sleep clinic legislation

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Senator Vincent Fort hosted a press conference Friday in light of the death of Emory Sleep Clinic patient Brandon Harris.

He will present Senate Bill 504, also known as the Brandon Harris Act, which will require sleep study facilities to be regulated.

Sen. Fort was joined by Brandon's mother Renee Lewis as well as other family members.

Two years ago a physician recommended Brandon Harris enter a non-invasive sleep study at The Emory Sleep Center.

While under the Emory Sleep Center's sleep technologists and physicians care, Brandon spent several agonizing hours suffering from severe respiratory distress and lost consciousness at the sleep center, according to the Harris family.

Emergency medical personnel could not revive Brandon.

He was rushed to the Emory University Hospital where he was pronounced dead due to respiratory arrest.
