KSU student at center of immigration controversy completes program

KENNESAW, GA (CBS46) -

There are new developments in the case of a former Kennesaw State University student at the center of an illegal immigration controversy.

Jessica Colotl has completed her diversion program that will wipe her record clean.

The district attorney gave her that option, over facing charges for lying to police.

The 23-year-old was nearly deported in 2010 when she was caught driving without a license. Authorities then discovered she was in the U.S. illegally. Colotl's parents crossed the border from Mexico when Colotl was a child.

The judge must sign off on paperwork before the case can be closed, but that will have to wait until the Georgia Appeal Court makes a ruling on the appeal filed last year.
