ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

What's small, brown and is shaped like a lady bug?  The answer is a kudzu stink bug.

Some residents in southeast Atlanta told CBS Atlanta News that the bugs have turned up just about everywhere in their Ormewood Park community.

Homeowners said they can't seem to get rid of the kudzu bugs, which can be found on their homes and cars.

"They're absolutely horrible. We were upstairs yesterday and I had on a white shirt and I wasn't aware they're attracted to white until now. They're horrible and they are the most annoying things you've seen in your life. I mean they're everywhere," said homeowner Jerry Davis.

Richard Spencer with Arrow Exterminators said the kudzu bugs migrated here from Asia three years ago and are now in 143 Georgia counties. Just three years ago, they were only found in three counties.

"We can treat this infestation today, and more kudzu bugs could be on the house tomorrow," said Spencer.

Spencer said they feed off of kudzu leaves, but since kudzu is dormant right now, they are attracted to light colored objects.

Spencer said the bugs are a nuisance, but they will not bite or sting anyone. So how do you get rid of the kudzu bugs?

"Homeowners can sweep them off with brooms, they can vacuum them up, but the very last thing you want to do is crush them because they'll stain a surface and they have a pretty obnoxious odor," said Spencer.

Spencer said they smell like an old can of paint if you crush them, but at least they won't bite or sting you.

"They need to go back to Asia or the kudzu needs to go ahead and bloom because they need to go somewhere else. They're just annoying as can be," said Davis.
